Industrial Visit of 5th Semester Diploma Mechanical Student at Wanakbori Thermal Power Station and U

  11 Aug 2023

The department of mechanical engineering organised a Two-day industrial visit for 5th-semester diploma mechanical students at Wanakbori Thermal Power Station, Wanakbori – Kheda and Ukai Hydro Power Plant, Tapi. Student got the exact detail for running the power plant. On the first day, Student had visited the wanakbori thermal power plant. The coal was received by using train in coal yard, and the coal would be mixed to increase the gross calorific value. The water used for cooling and all other purposes was bought from the nearby Sea water and Narmada Canal. We were taken to and explained about wagon tippler, where coal, brought from the coal field, on wagons is dumped into an apron feeder, which is then broken down into the required size and stored in the coal handling plant. We were also educated about the transformers, cooling towers and the chimneys. We were explained how GSECL made it its prime objective to keep the environment clean and hence the use of electrostatic precipitators. On the second day, Student had visited at Ukai Hydro Power Plant. It uses the water of Tapi river and the prime objective of making dam is to store and supply the water for domestic use and irrigation. It has 4 Kaplan turbine each of capacity of 75 MW. It was a great experience to actually take a look at whatever student had studied in theory and study the coal to electricity cycle in detail.
